What to Expect

Each yoga class is grounded around a different theme, typically inspired by nature and yoga philosophy. Although no class will ever be the same, each will follow a similar structure so you know what to expect: welcome, centring, postures, breathing practices, meditation and relaxation. We have also put together some suggestions which might help for getting ready for class. For more information please get in touch.

Centring

A few minutes of calming down the body, leaving behind any thoughts which are taking up space in our heads, and beginning to focus on ourselves ready for our practice.

Postures

You will be introduced to a selection of key yoga postures (asana), both static and through dynamic flows, which we will build on each week, gently working to lengthen, strengthen and balance the body. Charlotte always offers options for you to either rest or challenge depending on how you feel in class.

Breathing Practices

We will explore practices to help us breathe more fully, bringing awareness to our breath and linking our breath with movement.

Meditation

We will develop our ability to stay in the present moment and calm the mind by exploring a range of different meditation practices including pranayama, mudras, visualisation and mantra.

Relaxation

The final 10 minutes of each class will be reserved for the opportunity to rest and re-energise through a guided relaxation by Charlotte.

Getting Ready

  • What to wear: comfortable clothing that you can move in easily (it may be helpful to have some socks and extra layers to hand to make sure that you are warm enough).
  • What to bring: a yoga mat or non-slip surface for practice, a cushion can be helpful for comfort when sitting, a blanket (and eye-pillow if available) to cover yourself during relaxation, water to stay hydrated.
  • How to prepare your space: ensure your space is safe, free of obstacles and you have the room you need for stretching upwards and out to the sides.
  • Beforehand: For your comfort it is recommended not to eat for 2 hours before the class.
  • Online set up: Charlotte can talk you through the practicalities of how to access an online class.
